SLEEP

(credit)
I don't know about you, but except for during the summer, I hardly ever get enough sleep. Maybe that's just the high school life I've been resigned to for being in a college prep program, though (and yes, I realize that college will probably be worse). With school quickly approaching, I'm dreading feeling like I do today almost everyday. (Today I'm super tired as a result of being sick and being unable to sleep well.) Hurray for coffee! I'm really going to try to get more sleep, but I get a ridiculous amount of homework. In fact, it's commonly accepted in my school that most of us won't get enough sleep. Seriously, they gave us advice pamphlets and one of the topics was how to pull an all-nighter. Did you know that only about 20% of teens actually get enough sleep? (According to this.) I didn't know the number was that low. I'm seriously going to try to get more sleep this school year. I'll let you know how it goes.

Guess what I just found out? According to this article, During the last school year I was sleep deprived! Mostly during the end of the school year, and especially during exam week, which is probably the worst time to be sleep deprived. Eventually this vicious cycle started: I would get maybe six hours of sleep, and in the evenings I'd fall asleep while doing my homework or something. So guess what? I'd stay up later in order to finish my homework, therefore getting less sleep, and the cycle continues. At least I'm not one of those people who stay awake for days on end for fun. I do know a few.

Anyway, here's some advice: get enough sleep. There are some serious side effects associated with not getting enough sleep. Some include weight gain, developing diabetes, problems with thinking straight, fatigue, and, of course, drowsiness. If you go too long without sleep you'll end up acting like you're a bit drunk. Good news though: getting about an extra 30 minutes of sleep everyday can really improve your health.
Try to cut down on the TV or internet, if you're not getting enough sleep. One of my problems, as you may know, is procrastinating.  But, it wasn't as big of a problem during the second half of the school year.

So, do you get enough sleep every night? Have you ever had any sleeping disorders? Do you think you function just fine after getting less than eight hours of sleep? By the way, happy Friday the 13th! (No, I'm not superstitious.)

Wow, I don't know if I'd be able to function on just three hours every night. I've had to go with that little of sleep a few times... not fun. I hope you get some more sleep soon!
Well, last night I slept for about 10 hours. I'm feeling much better today, thanks for asking.

I'm glad you like my blog. The background is just a regular blogger background, though.

  4. Roni,

Sleep is definitely good. Don't expect to get more of it when you become an adult, though. I probably get less now than I ever have... Of course, I have a toddler...

  5. @Hannah: Thanks, I am. :)

@Alexa: I don't, really... At least for a few more years I'll have summer, holidays, and breaks to get as much sleep as I can. It seems like getting enough sleep is a problem for the majority of people (in places like the U.S. and the U.K., at least). Everything else is prioritized over sleep. I hope you can get more sleep when your toddler gets older, though!

  6. Thanks for the comment, Roni!

Ughh, speaking of sleep, I've been having the hardest time getting to sleep lately. But it's probably because I keep thinking about the start of school nearly everytime there's silence in the house. And then I get worried. lol.

  8. Enjoying your blog as a first time visitor. Sleep problems are something I have found affect all ages but it is very important for kids to get a good night sleep. Young drivers and sleep deprivation are a dangerous combination.
